Ava is a vampire human hybrid, she only feels the need to drink blood(though she doesn’t) at night and she can walk during the day. She is meant to be a secret, until two rival vampire fractions find her. That isn’t two bad, but she has somehow made a human be bound to her and he doesn’t appear to have his own thoughts in that head of his, plus a hunter who wants to kill her is someone she needs to team up with to get the human back to normal.
The book is good, I won’t deny that I really enjoyed reading it and is was a fun read, but it isn’t all that and a bag of chips really. The basic plot is for Ava to get the human free of her, so he can return to his family and stop taunting her to drink his blood. There are good moments of humour in the book and most of the character’s are nicely thought out, although there were moments when you wondered why hadn’t Ava just told the vampire hunter who sent her to see him? The one character I didn’t like however was Ava’s gran, who we don’t meet until the end of the book, however in the space of a few chapters she comes across as a woman who hasn’t learnt anything from what had happened, or being separated from her granddaughter.
There were moment’s when I wished the author had fleshed out other character’s, like Arthur – who seemed a really interesting character.
Other minus points was the human bound to Ava was stronger than the vampire hunter! Which is saying something considering the hunter has been after vampires for a lot longer. Also the vampire hunter just didn’t really seem that into it, at one point he was ready to give up and just leave, a vampire hunter wouldn’t do that – at least not the I have read of.
The author has got this as a series (I am detecting a pattern here) although I would have to say that I will not be reading the rest of them, although the book entertained me and humoured me, it was kind of like watching trashy TV, there was no substance there, nothing really makes me want to continue reading the rest of the series because it hasn’t gripped me, it wasn’t engaging enough.
It’s a decent read, it someone wants a vampire book series that isn’t seeped in romance and isn’t too heavy on the mind (ALA The Vampire Chronicals) then this book/series could well be the one for you.
