Geek Chic Cosmetics is a fairly new brand, it’s not as famous as say Sugar Pill or Lime Crime, but it is taking off even if they don’t have any stores anywhere in the world – although personal opinion is that will happen in the future.
Geek Chic Cosmetics is make-up with geekery in mind. The inspiration comes from a variety of different fandoms, some are just there for a short period of time; like the Ninja Turtles eye shadows; while other’s are being kept on for as long as they are popular; Doctor Who eye shadows.
What makes Geek Chic Cosmetics different to any other cosmetic company that you can buy in the shops? Well apart from being based on geeky shows, comics, manga or even movies, they are vegan, cruelty free and some of the products are also gluten free. They are all made by hand and they are made to order rather than having the cosmetics just be left around a warehouse for someone to by them. Along with that, when you go onto their website you don’t have to buy a full sized pot if it’s a colour you are unsure of, they do sample sizes for $1.25 (American) each, or £1 if you are from the UK – although prices can change when converting from dollars to pounds.
Full sized eye shadows are $5.99 and they are beautiful, every single on that I have got have been very pigmented – although a word of caution is needed when using them, have a towel down on the ground or table or where ever you are working with them, because they are very pigmented and they can stain.
These are the two most recent releases from Geek Chic from the Awesome Mix collect which is based off of The Guardian’s of the Galaxy. They also sell the complete set with other colours but I am a bit picky and went for two that I knew I would use often.
The blue sparkly eye shadow is called The Destroyer it’s an electric blue with a reddish shimmer to it, it’s just gorgeous, you could use it as a liner as well to make your eyes pop. This one is not lip safe; this is something I like, the pots all let you know if you can’t use an eye shadow on your lips and it’s very clear to red on the back too. It also has the ingredients on the back too.
The matte green eye shadow is called Deadliest Woman in the Universe, it might be matte but it still has shimmer through it! This one is also not lip safe.
These two are from the Single Player range, this is a range that doesn’t have a big collection to made made into it’s own range so the are placed into the Single Player area of the website.
The green sparkly shadow is called Everybody Lies This one actually works rather well with Deadliest Woman in the Universe if you wanted to pull to colours together. This is another one that isn’t lip safe.
The white sparkly shadow is Touched by Darkness, it’s very eye catching and is brilliant at giving highlight as well as giving more brightness to the eye. Again this one isn’t lip safe.
For many years I have searched for a red eye shadow that actually looked red and not an orangey red, but a pure red tone, I found something similar in Barry M’s Dazzle Dust but it didn’t really fit the bill, I found MAC had one, but it was pricey. Finally I found this! N7 is a matte colour and can be used if you want to have your eyes mixed with copper and/or gold to look like a sunset – that is how I like to work with it, or on it’s own because it’s gorgeous! This is gluten-free and is lip safe.
Bigger on the Inside is obviously Doctor Who related and it is a beautiful colour, blue based and with gold glitter through it, it’s a stunning colour.
These are two of the sample sizes that I have got from Geek Chic Cosmetics. They come in little clam shell plastic containers and although small they do hold a lot of colour, unless you really go to town with the colours these sample sizes should do you a good while to see what colour schemes you can get from them.
The lilac shade is Moon Faced Assassin of Joy which is unfortunately no longer available but it is a beautiful colour to blend in with it’s neighbour; All Love is Unrequited which is also no longer available. However this gives you a look at how much product you would be getting in one of the sample sizes.
Geek Chic Cosmetics do more than just eye shadow – I do have more but for the sake of this post I don’t want it to be too long. They also have lip sticks – Joysticks – and lip gloss – Geek Gloss, if you live in the States you would also be able to order their nail polish’s too. Also they have a small range of solid perfumes.
This is a brand that should be looked into and everything that can be checked out should be checked out.
